Our Work

In Bangkok, there are too many cats and not enough homes. We can never adopt our way out of the growing number of street cats in Thailand.

And while adoption is part of any solution, the reality is that most Thai cats will live their entire lives as outdoor community cats.

This is why we follow international best practices in outdoor cat population management to help cats live safe and fulfilling lives in local communities.

Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate & Return (CNVR)

CNVR is the most effective, humane, and sustainable way to manage community cat populations. It reduces disease,  stabilizes colonies and prevents countless births.

BCS conducts regular CNVR efforts throughout Bangkok, humanely trapping cats in their neighborhoods, sterilizing them through our veterinarian team, and returning them to their original locations.

Unlike programs focused solely on sterilization, our trained caretakers monitor colony health, address community concerns, and report medical issues, creating a data-driven approach to community cat management.

Medical Care and Emergency Services

Bangkok’s streets can be hazardous for cats. From traffic accidents to infectious diseases, many community cats live in constant danger.

We provide both preventive and emergency medical care. Whether it’s treating skin issues, a severe wound, managing chronic conditions, or providing life-saving interventions, our goal is to ensure that no cat is left to suffer.

Cats are returned to their communities after they’ve recovered, helping to maintain stable, healthy populations. We provide a facility for cats with chronic conditinos of special needs cats who can not live outside.

Special Needs

Though our primary focus is on population management, we rescue and rehome vulnerable cats, particularly those with special needs.

Our team cares for cats that require additional attention because of long-term ailments such as blindness, amputations, or long-term illnesses that require ongoing medication and care. Some of our cats are born with these conditions, while others are by accidents or injuries.

BCS is dedicated to ensuring lifelong care for special needs cats who cannot survive on the streets. We are currently expanding our special needs cat program to include more capacity for care and adoptions.

To date, we have helped cats with FeLV (feline leukemia), FIV (feline AIDS) and renal failure, to humanely live their final days with comfort and dignity.

Buddhist Temple Mobile Clinics

Bangkok is home to an estimated 400 Buddhist temples, or wats, and across Thailand, there are over 40,000 temples, ranging from modest neighborhood shrines to large, elaborate complexes.

Buddhist temples serve as natural refuges for community cats. Unfortunately, many Thais abandon pets at temples when they can not care for them, and  these spaces often become overcrowded, leading to competition for food and the spread of disease.
Our mobile clinics bring free sterilization and vaccination services directly to local temples, preventing further overpopulation and helping improve the overall health of temple cats. This approach builds trust in local communities to take an active role in managing local cat populations.

Moto-sai Taxi Program

Bangkok is home to tens of thousands of motorcycle taxis, known locally as moto-sai. They are crucial for navigating the city’s congested streets, often using shortcuts through narrow alleys and avoiding traffic jams.

Our innovative MotoTaxi Program enlists local motorcycle taxi drivers to report injured or sick cats in need of urgent care, and assist in transporting animals during our CNVR (catch-neuter-vaccinate-return) efforts, particularly in Bangkok’s more densely populated or slum districts.

Many drivers come from lower-income backgrounds and have deep knowledge of their neighborhoods, making them ideal partners in community cat management. Our goal is to create a grassroots network that can help report emergencies and accelerate response times for cats in need.

Education & Advocacy

Bangkok Cat Society educates communities on responsible cat ownership and caregiving. Our goal is to achieve harmonious co-existence between local Thais and community cats. We intervene to de-escalate disputes and avoid cat cruelty situations. Trained Thais lead operations to ensure programs are culturally appropriate and welcomed in local communities.
