Our Story

BCS emerged in 2019 after several cat advocates learned of 25 cats living in an abandoned home when their long-time caregiver died. Neighbors explained the cats were hungry, and many were unsterilized, having litter after litter of kittens that died from preventable diseases.

As territorial creatures, these cats were clinging to the only home they knew. Without intervention, they risked harm or death because their long-time home was about to be replaced by a shopping complex.

We knew we had to take action.
The situation was challenging, involving an absentee owner, and no official programs to protect these cats while construction was underway. We also learned that government shelters are severely overcrowded.
Our only solution was to catch, remove and rehome these cats.
It took over three weeks, but all 25 cats were humanely trapped and removed from the property and rehomed. While our efforts saved these cats from an uncertain fate, we learned that this situation was not unusual.
The challenges we faced in rescuing these cats inspired the creation of Bangkok Cat Society. Our goal is to bring proven, sustainable solutions to improve the lives of all community cats in Thailand and across the region.
BCS and its members have sterilized and cared for thousands of non-owned cats in Bangkok. We also provide support for special needs cats, who can no longer safely live colony life.
